We use "그러나" and "하지만" when we suggest new information that is contrary to what is suggested before. They are both used in written Korean, but 하지만 is used more frequently in conversation.
"그 식당의 음식들은 아주 유명하다. 그러나/하지만 내 입맛에는 맞지 않는다." is "The food at that restaurant is very famous. However, it isn't to my taste."

what is the difference between geu reon de and geu reo na? Is it because one is but and one is however? Thank you:)

그러나 is but, 그런데 is well/by the way. :)
